“Anke Callligraphic FG” emerged as a joint venture together with Anke Arnold. She scanned the character written by herself with a calligraphic nib and published the result as “Anke Calligraph” in 2001.
I did a lot of work on this first version, fitted letterspacing, x-heights, angles and stroke widths to make the face smooth and flowing without destroying its liveliness. To distinguish it from Anke's version I renamed it to "Anke Calligraphic FG" (for FontGrube, evidently), publishing it here, with Anke's permission, in late 2002.
The font has been a success ever since. A look at the Type ID forum “What the font” gives witness of where it is being used.
Anke Calligraphic FG seems to be Anke's as well as my most popular typeface by far. 840.000 downloads at dafont.com alone and the extensive use in advertising campaigns worldwide speak for themselves.
Anke has - without consulting me - declared the font freeware for both commercial and non-commercial use.
So much for cooperation.
Considering the advertising trade worldwide has already helped themselves
to this font, I regard this latest version 2.0 as my final one.
It has a few more international characters, also supporting Turkish now.
The number of kerning pairs has increased from 4 to over 100.
Also, letterspacing and x-height have been adjusted much more than I did in 2002,
so this font is really fit for personal and commercial use.
